TCK70-1500 CNC Slant Bed Lathe – 720 mm Swing with an 80 mm Through-Hole Spindle

The TCK70 is BONANZA’s general-purpose, high-efficiency slant bed lathe, and the specification sheet points at shaft, flange and bushing work that has outgrown a 50-class lathe but does not need the 3 m bed of a TCK70D.

The short version: 720 mm of swing over the bed, a 1,500 mm turning length, an A2-8 / A2-11 spindle with an 80 mm bore that swallows 70 mm bar, an 18.5 kW spindle motor, and a 12-station turret rated for a 12 mm single-edge cut. What each of those numbers means at the machine:

A 45-degree bed and a through-hole that earns its keep

The bed sits at 45 degrees, the standard answer to chip control on a lathe. Turned chips slide clear of the cutting zone instead of piling up under the workpiece, and the turret sits closer to the operator than on a flat bed.

The spindle is offered with an A2-8 or A2-11 nose, an 80 mm bore and 70 mm of bar capacity. Bar capacity decides whether you feed the lathe from bar stock or from cut blanks. At 70 mm, the TCK70 runs shaft and bushing work as bar-fed jobs. It is a step up from the A2-6, 65 mm-bore spindle on the TCK6050D, and one below the A2-11, 120 mm bore on the TCK80D-1500.

An 18.5 kW spindle motor is a working figure, not a showroom one. It is enough to hold consistent heavy passes in medium-carbon steel and cast iron without the spindle dropping speed under load, which is what keeps finish even across a long shaft.

The turret: 12 stations, 12 mm single-edge cuts

The TCK70 uses a 12-station turret with a 125 mm centre height and a wider span than the smaller models in the range. BONANZA rates it for a single 12 mm cutting tool, so a 12 mm depth of cut comes off in one edge instead of needing a roughing and semi-finishing pair to remove the same stock.

The wider span matters for the same reason it does on the TCK6350B, which is built for long-term unilateral cutting of 12 mm. Support the holder further from its mounting point and a deep cut moves the tip less, so the machine holds size instead of leaving chatter on the part. Twelve stations is a productivity item too: a shaft needing rough and finish turning, a groove, a thread and a shoulder face can be tooled complete and run without stopping to swap holders.

Reach on X and Z

X travel is 250 mm across the cross slide, with 420 mm of swing over the cross slide and 500 mm of maximum turning diameter. That covers most flange and disc work up to half a metre across and still leaves the turret room to approach.

Z travel is 1,520 mm against a 1,500 mm maximum turning length. The published series note puts the TCK70 family’s maximum cutting length between 1,000 and 3,000 mm, so the 1500 build is one configuration inside a longer family. Past 1,500 mm the TCK70D takes the same 720 mm swing out to 2,950 mm and steps up to a 120 mm bore, at roughly 12,000 kg on the floor.

Rapids, tailstock and the numbers that set cycle time

Rapid traverse is 12 m/min on X and 16 m/min on Z. Z is the faster axis, which is the right way round: Z carries the long moves down the bed while X mostly infeed and retracts. A full Z traverse runs about 5.7 seconds.

The tailstock travels 1,400 mm with a 110 mm quill and 100 mm of quill stroke. Because the tailstock travel roughly matches the turning length, a shaft can be supported at the tail end across the full working envelope instead of only the first part of the bed. On 1,500 mm shaft work, that is the difference between turning the part between centres and re-chucking it.

Where the TCK70 sits in the range

The BONANZA CNC slant bed lathe series runs in a clear order of size, and the TCK70-1500 is the pivot point in the middle of it:

  • TCK6050D: 560 mm swing, 500 or 980 mm turning length, A2-6 spindle, 65 mm bore, 50 mm bar, 11/15 kW.
  • TCK6350D: 630 mm swing, 450 mm turning length, A2-8 spindle, 96 mm bore, 85 mm bar, 4,400 kg.
  • TCK70-1500: 720 mm swing, 1,500 mm turning length, A2-8/A2-11 spindle, 80 mm bore, 70 mm bar, 18.5 kW, 8,500 kg.
  • TCK80D-1500: 850 mm swing, 1,450 mm turning length, A2-11 spindle, 120 mm bore, 90 mm bar, 18.5/22 kW.
  • TCK80B-1500: hard rail structure, 630 mm bed rotation, 530 mm shaft cutting length, A2-8 spindle.

The TCK6050D and TCK6350D family covers smaller, faster work. The TCK70-1500 is the move you make when parts need more swing and a longer bed than a 600-class lathe offers but still fit inside 1,500 mm. Beyond that the TCK70D and TCK80D-1500 take over, with bigger bores and heavier frames. At roughly 8,500 kg the TCK70-1500 also needs a considered floor, so get the footprint and foundation drawing from the factory before you lock the plant layout.

Who the TCK70-1500 suits

  • Shaft, pin and bushing work fed as 70 mm bar stock, running unattended from a bar feeder
  • Flange and disc parts up to 500 mm that need facing, boring and grooving in one setup
  • Shops stepping up from a 560 or 630 mm swing lathe because their parts no longer fit

What to confirm before you order

A few things that matter on the shop floor are not on the published sheet. Ask for them with the quotation:

  • Overall machine dimensions and the foundation drawing, since only the weight is published
  • Spindle speed range and maximum output torque, for matching cutting data to your material
  • Turret tooling interface plus live-tool and Y-axis options for your build
  • Positioning and repeat positioning accuracy, and the acceptance test standard

Frequently asked questions

What is the bar capacity of the TCK70-1500?

70 mm, on an 80 mm spindle bore with an A2-8 or A2-11 spindle nose.

Can the TCK70-1500 turn parts longer than 1,500 mm?

The TCK70-1500 is the 1,500 mm build. The TCK70 family is published with cutting lengths from 1,000 mm to 3,000 mm, and the TCK70D covers 2,950 mm on the same 720 mm swing.

How deep a cut will the turret take?

BONANZA rates the 12-station turret for a single 12 mm cutting tool, with a wider turret span for rigidity on long edge cuts.

Bottom line

The TCK70-1500 fills a specific gap: 720 mm of swing and a 1,500 mm bed, a 70 mm bar capacity spindle and an 18.5 kW motor, on a frame around 8,500 kg. If you are weighing up a 720 mm swing lathe for bar-fed shaft work or 500 mm flange parts, send the BONANZA team your drawing with the material, finished size and batch quantity. You will get a straight answer on whether the TCK70-1500 slant bed lathe fits the job, or whether the TCK6050D or the larger TCK80D-1500 is the better match.
