One thing to settle before you quote: the same product page also lists a TCK70D-2000 build with 1,950 mm turning length, 1,950 mm Z travel, a 4,756 × 2,240 × 2,238 mm footprint and about 10,000 kg. Same swing, same spindle, shorter bed. Floor load, crane capacity and rigging cost all change with that difference, so decide which build you mean first.
The long bed is the whole point
2,950 mm of turning length at a 720 mm swing is an unusual combination. Most lathes in the 700 mm class stop somewhere around 1,000 to 1,500 mm between centers; going past that usually means jumping to a much larger, wider machine. Here you can hold a shaft close to three meters long without buying a lathe sized for parts twice the diameter. If your work is long and slender rather than short and massive, that is a real saving in floor space and in money.
The X-axis travel of 300 mm matches the cross slide swing of 400 mm. Tool approach is short and direct, which suits the way long work is normally machined: face, turn, then work down the length in passes. Z rapid traverse is 10 m/min. On a bed this long you will travel three meters every time you reposition, so keep an eye on cycle time when the part uses the full length.
A 120 mm bore on an A2-11 nose
The spindle bore is 120 mm behind an A2-11 nose, which is the same front end BONANZA uses on the larger TCK80D-1500. That matters for two reasons. First, bar and tube up to the bore size can pass through the spindle instead of being chucked as a stub, which cuts the number of setups on long tubular parts. Second, an A2-11 nose carries the bigger chucks and the bending loads that come with them, so you are not fighting a light front end on a machine that swings 720 mm.
Usable bar capacity always ends up smaller than the bore once you account for the chuck and the feeding arrangement, so confirm your material size with the factory before you commit. Where the bore really earns its keep is on pipe, tube and hollow parts: feed through, machine, part off.
Turret and cutting capacity
BONANZA builds the TCK70 family on a 45-degree slant bed with a 12-station turret at 125 mm center height, a wider turret span than the shorter machines, and a 12 mm single tool. The wider span is not decoration. Long toolholders and boring bars need clearance from the work and from the bed, and a compact turret on a long-bed machine runs out of room quickly. The family covers cutting lengths from about 1,000 mm up to 3,000 mm, and the TCK70D sits at the top of that range.
Where the TCK70D sits in the slant bed series
The CNC slant bed lathe series has nine models and they are not interchangeable. The short version:
- TCK6050D and its siblings cover the small end: compact turned parts, higher spindle speeds, 560 mm class swing, and a much lighter machine to install.
- TCK6350D is the 630 mm swing, 450 mm turning length workhorse: A2-8 nose, 96 mm bore, 4,400 kg. Good for chucking work on shorter parts.
- TCK80D-1500 goes bigger on diameter rather than length: 850 mm swing, 700 mm max turning diameter, 1,450 mm turning length, the same A2-11 and 120 mm bore, 9,000 kg.
- TCK70D takes the opposite direction. Less swing than the 80D, more than double the turning length, and the same spindle. For long shafting under 720 mm in diameter, it is the more useful machine of the two.
Long parts and big diameters pull in different directions. Buying for one when you cut the other is how shops end up with a machine they cannot use.
Two things to check before you order
The published tailstock travel is 110 mm with a 100 mm quill stroke. On a 2,950 mm bed, that is a narrow working range for the tailstock body, so long between-centers turning will lean on steady rest support rather than on tailstock extension alone. Ask BONANZA how the machine is normally set up for shaft work and what workholding comes with it. The spec sheet will not answer that question for you.
Second, plan the foundation and the chip handling. At 6,154 × 2,321 mm and 12,000 kg, this machine needs a floor that can carry it and a door and crane that can deliver it. And roughing steel on a long bed produces chips at a rate that a pan will not keep up with, so budget a conveyor if the machine is going into production. On a lathe this size, the accessories you skip are usually the ones that decide whether it pays for itself.
