630-DT Horizontal Machining Center: 1200 kg on a 630 mm Pallet with a BT50-190 Spindle

Horizontal machining centers earn their keep when a part has features on several faces and you would rather not keep moving it. The 630-DT sits in the middle of that market: a 630 × 630 mm table rated for 1200 kg, a BT50 spindle with a φ190 taper nose turning to 6000 rpm, and 1100 mm of X travel.

Spec sheets are easy to misread. A table load figure decides whether you can clamp a cast gearbox housing plus its fixture and still have margin. A spindle speed decides whether you are hogging steel or finishing aluminium. Travel decides whether the part fits at all. What a 1200 kg table load actually buys you

This is the number buyers misjudge most often. The 1200 kg is not the workpiece allowance, it is everything sitting on the table: the casting, the tombstone or angle plate, the clamps, and the fixture. A 700 kg iron housing on a 250 kg tombstone leaves roughly 250 kg of headroom. A 1000 kg weldment with heavy fixturing does not fit that budget, and a shop usually discovers this after the machine is already on the floor.

On a 630 mm pallet, 1200 kg is generous. It is the reason this machine takes box-type parts, valve bodies and mould bases that a lighter 630 would refuse. If your parts sit closer to 400 or 500 kg, the HTMC630-VI uses the same footprint with a 500 kg limit and shorter travels.

BT50 with a φ190 nose, capped at 6000 rpm

A BT50 taper with a φ190 nose is a heavy spindle. It takes the large face mills and boring bars that pull real power in steel and cast iron, and the taper mass absorbs interrupted cuts better than a smaller interface.

The 6000 rpm ceiling is a deliberate trade. It is plenty for a 125 mm shell mill in carbon steel, for boring a valve body, or for inserted drills in cast iron. What it is not built for is high-speed aluminium work with 6 mm end mills at 15000 rpm, where a smaller taper and a faster spindle win. If most of your work is aluminium finishing, this is the wrong machine.

Travels of 1100 / 900 / 1000 mm and the parts they cover

The envelope is nearly cubic, which suits parts that are chunky rather than long. X travel of 1100 mm with a 630 mm pallet means the spindle can cross the full table and still reach past centre, so a feature on the far side of a large casting is reachable without re-clamping.

In this class the pallet normally indexes in 90° steps, which turns a single 630 mm table into four machined faces in one setup.

Z travel of 1000 mm sets how far the spindle reaches into a part and how much clearance you have for long tool assemblies.

Where the 630-DT sits in the horizontal range

  • 1000S-DT takes a 1000 × 1000 mm table and 4000 kg, with 1800 / 1000 / 1300 mm travels and a 3000 rpm spindle for heavier, slower cuts.
  • TH1400S and TH1600S are the large end: 5000 kg and 10000 kg table loads, 2000 rpm and 1500 rpm spindles, machine weights of 19500 kg and 24000 kg.

Shop floor notes before you request a quote

At 12000 kg this machine needs a proper foundation and a plan for rigging. BT50 holders are heavy and cost more than BT40 equivalents, so budget a starter set.

Coolant deserves early thought too: deep bores in valve bodies and hydraulic blocks are much easier with through-spindle coolant, and it is cheaper to specify at order time than to retrofit.

Keep 18 m/min rapids in perspective as well. On a 12000 kg horizontal moving a loaded pallet, positioning and clamping time sets the cycle, so a long cut is more likely to be your bottleneck than a slow move.

Does the machine support pallet changing?
