800S-DT Horizontal Machining Center – 800 mm Pallet, 2,000 kg Load, 15 m/min Rapids | BONANZA CNC

An 800 mm pallet is the size where a horizontal machining center starts to pay for itself in a job shop. Big enough to hold a transmission housing, a valve body, or a pump casing. Small enough that you are not pouring a special foundation and hiring a 40-tonne crane to set it. The BONANZA 800S-DT lives in that band: 800 × 800 mm table, 2,000 kg load, 1,300 mm of X travel, BT50-45° spindle, 15,500 kg on the scale.

This is a straightforward look at what the machine does well, where it sits against the 800-DT, 630-DT, and 1000S-DT, and what you should nail down with the factory before you sign.

The numbers that decide the work

Travel is 1,300 mm in X, 1,000 mm in Y, 1,000 mm in Z. The X axis is the long one, and that is deliberate: on a horizontal, X is where tombstone fixtures, multi-part nests, and long weldments go. A metre of Y and Z gives you a work envelope that handles most box-type parts around a cubic metre without repositioning.

The table carries 2,000 kg across 800 × 800 mm, with seven T-slots at 22 mm width on 100 mm pitch. Seven slots sounds like a detail until you are bolting down an irregular casting and need a clamp point in a specific place. Twenty-two millimetre slots take standard M20 hardware.

Rapid traverse is 15 m/min on X and 12 m/min on Y and Z. On a machine of this mass, that is a sensible split. X moves the heaviest column assembly over the longest distance, so it gets the extra speed. Y and Z stay conservative, which keeps acceleration loads off the spindle head and helps surface finish on contoured work.

The spindle is BT50-45°. BT50 tooling gives you more taper contact and grip than BT40, which is what you want when you are running face mills and boring bars in steel or cast iron rather than light finishing passes in aluminium.

How it compares to the rest of the 800 mm class

800S-DT vs 800-DT

Both machines sit on an 800 × 800 mm table with 1,300 mm of X travel, so the footprint of the work is nearly the same. The differences are in load and reach. The 800-DT takes 2,500 kg on the table and gives you 1,150 mm of Y instead of 1,000 mm. It runs 12 m/min on all three axes and carries a BT50-200 spindle rated at 6,000 rpm, on a 16,000 kg frame.

So the trade is clear. The 800-DT is the heavier-lifting, taller-reaching version. The 800S-DT is 500 kg lighter, 150 mm shorter in Y, and 3 m/min faster on X. If your parts are dense and tall, the 800-DT is the better fit. If they are long and you are moving between stations constantly, the faster X on the 800S-DT earns its keep.

800S-DT vs 630-DT

The 630-DT is a 630 × 630 mm pallet machine with a 1,200 kg table load, 1,100/900/1,000 mm of travel, and quicker rapids at 18/15/15 m/min. It runs a BT50φ190 spindle at 6,000 rpm and weighs 12,000 kg. Faster and lighter, but the pallet is a full size step down. If a 630 pallet holds your part family, you will get more cycles per hour out of it. If it does not, the 800S-DT is the next step up without jumping to a 1,000 mm machine.

800S-DT vs 1000S-DT

The 1000S-DT moves to a 1,000 × 1,000 mm table with a 4,000 kg load, 1,800/1,000/1,300 mm of travel, and a BT50-45° spindle published at 3,000 rpm. It weighs 16,000 kg and measures 4,380 × 3,910 × 4,700 mm. That is double the table capacity and 500 mm more X, at the cost of a wider machine and a slower spindle. It is the right call for large castings; it is overkill for parts that fit the 800.

Floor space and rigging

The machine occupies 6,800 × 3,400 × 4,500 mm and weighs 15,500 kg. The 4.5 m height matters more than people expect — you need clearance above the machine for lifting gear during installation and for servicing the spindle head. Plan for a forklift or crane rated well above 15.5 tonnes, and check the door width on the route in before you order. A machine that will not fit through the shop door is an expensive lesson.

What the spec sheet does not cover

BONANZA publishes the geometry and load data for this model. Several items that matter for process planning are not on the page, and you should get them in writing with your quotation:

Spindle speed range, motor power, and torque, with continuous and intermittent ratings stated separately. The 800-DT publishes 6,000 rpm; do not assume the 800S-DT matches it, confirm it. Tool magazine capacity and the maximum tool diameter and length the changer will accept. Whether a pallet changer is included or optional, and its configuration. Positioning and repeatability accuracy, and the standard they are measured against. Guideway type on each axis. Controller model and version. Chip conveyor, coolant-through-spindle, and any automation interface.

None of these are unusual requests. A machine tool is a 15-tonne capital purchase; the quote should answer them before the purchase order does.

Who this machine suits

The 800S-DT fits shops running batch work on box-type parts: hydraulic manifolds, gearbox housings, valve bodies, pump casings, and general machining job work where parts arrive in tens rather than thousands. It is also a reasonable first horizontal for a shop that has outgrown a large vertical machining center and wants to cut four faces in one setup instead of four.

It is not the machine for 10-tonne weldments, and it is not the machine for high-speed aluminium work. Those are different problems with different answers in the same catalogue.

If you want to talk through the fit, send us your part drawings, material, and batch size. We will tell you whether the 800S-DT is right, or point you to the 800-DT, 1000S-DT, or a larger TH-series machine. Full specifications are on the 800S-DT product page, and the rest of the range is on the horizontal machining center series page. Reach the team through the contact page.
