TH1400S Horizontal Machining Center – 1,400 mm Pallet and 5,000 kg Load for Heavy Box and Mold Work | BONANZA CNC

There is an awkward gap in the horizontal machining center market. A 1000 mm pallet machine is fine until you fixture a casting that overhangs the table. A 1600 mm machine has the capacity, but also the footprint, weight and price tag that come with it. For plenty of job shops, neither end of that range is quite right.
The TH1400S from BONANZA sits in the middle. It carries a 1400 × 1400 mm table rated to 5000 kg, a BT50-45° spindle, and a machine weight of 19500 kg. It is the machine you buy when your parts are genuinely heavy but you are not ready to give a 24-ton machine its own corner of the building.
What the TH1400S is built for
The reason to choose a horizontal at all comes down to chips. On a vertical machine they fall back onto the part and the fixture. On a horizontal, the spindle points sideways and gravity does the housekeeping. That is why horizontals dominate production work in box-type parts, where you remove a lot of material and cannot stop every few minutes to clear swarf.
The TH1400S leans into that role. The 1400 mm square table with 7-22-125 mm T-slots gives a wide, well-supported surface for large fixtures and tombstones, and the 5000 kg rating means you can clamp a substantial casting without watching the table deflect. With 1800 mm of X travel, 1300 mm of Y and 1500 mm of Z, there is enough envelope to reach around the sides of big workpieces instead of fighting for clearance.
The BT50-45° spindle runs up to 2000 r/min. That is not a high-speed spindle and it is not meant to be. BT50 tooling is chosen for torque and rigidity, which is what you want when roughing steel and cast iron, and the 45° taper adds axial and radial grip under heavy load.

At 14 m/min on X and Z and 12 m/min on Y, the TH1400S is not chasing the fastest positioning speeds in the catalogue, and that is a deliberate trade. Heavier axes need more torque to accelerate and stop cleanly; pushing those numbers higher on a moving column this size buys very little real cycle time while adding wear.
Where the 1400 mm table earns its keep
Box bodies and valve bodies
Gearboxes, pump housings, compressor casings and valve bodies all share one problem: you need to machine several faces, and the part is heavy enough that re-fixturing is slow and risky. A horizontal with a rotary table reaches four or more faces in one clamping, and the TH1400S table leaves room to mount that rotary table and still have envelope left over for the part.
Mold bases and die sets
Mold work mixes heavy stock removal with careful finishing. You rough out large pockets in tool steel, then hold bores and fits in the same setup. The stiffness of a 19500 kg frame matters here — a lighter machine will chatter on deep pocketing passes, and chatter means time spent chasing surface finish instead of cutting.
Automotive and heavy equipment components
Transmission housings, axle carriers and the larger castings that go into construction and agricultural equipment land in this size class. The 5000 kg table load is enough to fixture a fully assembled weldment or a large casting without breaking it down first, and every operation you eliminate from a second machine is setup time and tolerance stack-up removed from the process.
How it fits in the BONANZA horizontal line
Against the rest of the range, the three TH-series machines line up like this:
- TH1000S: 1000 × 1000 mm table, 4000 kg load, BT50-45° spindle at 3000 r/min, 16000 kg machine. The faster-spinning option for medium parts.
- TH1400S: 1400 × 1400 mm table, 5000 kg load, BT50-45° spindle at 2000 r/min, 19500 kg machine. The middle step — more table area and capacity than the TH1000S, without the bulk of the largest model.
- TH1600S: 1600 × 1600 mm table, 10,000 kg load, BT50-45° spindle at 1500 r/min, 24000 kg machine. The heavy hitter for the largest castings and fixtures.
Read the pattern in those numbers and the choice becomes clearer. As the table grows, the load rating roughly doubles at each step and the top spindle speed drops, because bigger parts generally mean heavier cuts in harder material. If your parts are heavy but your finishes are still demanding, the TH1400S hits the balance point. If your work is smaller than a 1400 mm pallet needs, the TH1000 and the rest of the horizontal machining center range cover the lighter end. If 5 tons is not enough, the TH1600S is the next step up.
Before you buy
Two things are worth sorting out early. First, workholding: a 1400 mm pallet begs for a tombstone and possibly a two-pallet changer, and that pallet system is where the real cycle-time gains come from in production. Second, tooling: moving to BT50 means investing in BT50 holders, which are heavier and more expensive than BT40, though they let you run larger face mills and indexable drills. And at 19500 kg, the machine needs a proper foundation and enough floor space to load parts onto a 1400 mm table.
Getting a straight answer on fit
The honest way to decide is to take one or two of your real parts — the heaviest, the most awkward to fixture — and walk through the setup on each candidate machine. Table size and load capacity alone do not tell you whether the envelope works, whether your fixture clears the guards, or whether the Z travel reaches where you need to cut.
BONANZA builds the TH series horizontals for exactly this kind of heavy, multi-face work, and we are happy to look at your drawings and tell you which model actually fits rather than selling you the largest one. You can see the full details on the TH1400S product page, or get in touch and we will work through the numbers with you.
